Joseph William "Joe" Frazier, was born on Jan. 12, 1944. He is famously known as Smokin' Joe. He is a former Olympic and Undisputed World Heavyweight boxing champion. His professional career lasted from 1965 to 1976, with a brief comeback in 1981.
Joe Frazier has recently been diagnosed several weeks ago with a severe case of liver cancer. He is under the care of Hospice, and the doctors are predicting that he will have less than a month to live. Frazier is an idol to many boxing fans worldwide, and this would be a tremendous loss for many.
Frazier is well known for being the first man to beat Muhammad Ali. He knocked him down with his famous left hook, and won the decision known as the "Fight of the Century" in 1971. Frazier resented Muhammad Ali for ridiculing him. It was just recently that he forgave Muhammad for his actions. The two fighters are forever etched in the minds of boxing fans the world over.
