This is my first post for my new Blog site Boxing Now!!!

I, code name (Double S) will be featuring a site especially for boxing junkies. Some of my future topics that I will be discussing are the current climate of boxing, up coming bouts, and the future of boxing. In addition, I will discuss some hypothetical matches, and some possible outcomes. In other posts, I will list my personal top 10 boxers of all time, and my top 5 favorite knock out artists, and my top 5 best matches of the past. Furthermore, I will comment on the controversial topic of steroids in boxing, drug testing, and its possible effects on the future of boxing.  

I look forward to any comments, and your views on boxing in general. Please feel free to post your responses regarding any topics that I may have or not covered.

Floyd Mayweather VS. Vitor Ortiz Fight

The Floyd Mayweather VS. Vitor Ortiz Fight

Let’s drive right in shall we. Everybody and their mother have an opinion about the Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz fight. There is much controversy over the outcome, but after watching this fight, it is obvious in my opinion, that Mayweather out boxed Ortiz. The punch stats prove that Floyd is in total control throughout the fight. In every round, Mayweather is faster, more accurate, and more aggressive. On the other hand, Ortiz shows that he can take a great punch. However, this means that he playing defense more then he wants. I gathered that around the fourth round, Ortiz seems frustrated, which results in him fighting dirty. I, as much as the crowd, was shocked when Ortiz unexpectedly head butted Floyd in the face. This causes Mayweather to take advantage of the ref’s lack of attention to detail, and in return he sneaks in a left hook, right hand knocking out Ortiz. Some people say that Floyd sucker punched Ortiz, but everyone knows that the number one rule in boxing is to protect yourself at all times. Thus, I believe Mayweather legally won this bout. There are a lot of people talking about a rematch, but I would personally like to see Mayweather fight Manny Pacquiao instead.

I pick Roberto Duran as number ten on my list because he is known as the boxer with the hands of stone, and can pack a punch. Next on my list, is Manny Pacquiao because he is one of the most exciting fighters in the history of boxing. Coming in at number eight, is Money Mayweather. Floyd is one of the most technically sound boxers of his generation. Following, is Julio Cesar Chavez. In my opinion, he is a living legend. He has fought 115 fights, and won 107 of them. This alone, brings him in at number seven on my list. Evander Holyfield is known for bringing the “real deal” to the ring. Also, I have never seen another boxer with as much heart as him. Sugar Ray Leonard is ranked as number five. He has it all: speed, showmanship, and smarts. Number four is the man known for the straight right hand, Thomas “Hit Man” Hearns. He possesses incredible power which secures his spot on my list. If you like drama, you have to love this next fighter. Iron Mike Tyson became the youngest heavy weight champion of all time at the age 21. This is what lands him at number three on my list. Greatness can be measured through athletic events or through life experiences. Muhammad Ali is great at both. He is a political figure inside and out the ring.  In many people’s opinions he is known worldwide as the greatest of all time. Drum roll please! My number one pick of all time greatest boxers is Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker. He is my first pick because he is unmatched in his boxing skills, and with talent to match.

Anabolic Steriods-The Dark Side of Boxing

Next, I would like to talk about the use of steroids in boxing, and how it is destroying the sport I love so dearly. I think there should be more regulations concerning drug testing with this sport. There needs to be more strict guidelines set in policy. Many boxers suggesting the Olympic style drug testing as an alternative.  This is the most effective program because unlike the sole urine tests issued by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Olympic testing includes blood. I think it is critical to have these tests done during training, 30 days before the agreement on the fight, and the day before the actual event. I think this is necessary because a slew of boxers have tested positive for steroids in the past. For example, Roy Jones Jr., Frans Botha, Fernando Vargas, Shane Mosley, and James Toney, just to name a few. So, in my opinion, I agree with the Olympic style drug testing. This will confirm that everyone is on an equal playing field.

MEGA FIGHT-The Fight of Our Generation!

Let’s talk about the fight that the Boxing Gods themselves are wishing to see: Floyd Mayweather Jr.  Vs. Manny Pacquiao. In my opinion, this will be a mega fight, and possibly one of the greatest fights of the past 30 years. Pacquiao has the speed, power, and endurance. On the other hand, Mayweather has the speed to match, defensive ability, and all-around boxing skills. If, and when this fight happens, it will be a star studded occasion, and a ‘must see’ for any boxing fan around the world. If this boxing match lives up to the hype, we are all in for an unforgettable fight, which will be one for the ages.

I will give my prediction now. I think Floyd will get the decision in an exciting twelve round fight. Thus, my money is on Mayweather! I believe that his style of boxing and defense will pay off in the end. This prediction is based solely on both fighters agreeing to the Olympic style drug testing. However, if this testing is not implemented, then I believe Pac-Man will K.O Floyd in the ninth round.

Smokin' Joe

Joseph William "Joe" Frazier, was born on Jan. 12, 1944. He is famously known as Smokin' Joe. He is a former Olympic and Undisputed World Heavyweight boxing champion. His professional career lasted from 1965 to 1976, with a brief comeback in 1981.

Joe Frazier has recently been diagnosed several weeks ago with a severe case of liver cancer. He is under the care of Hospice, and the doctors are predicting that he will have less than a month to live. Frazier is an idol to many boxing fans worldwide, and this would be a tremendous loss for many.  

Frazier is well known for being the first man to beat Muhammad Ali. He knocked him down with his famous left hook, and won the decision known as the "Fight of the Century" in 1971. Frazier resented Muhammad Ali for ridiculing him. It was just recently that he forgave Muhammad for his actions.  The two fighters are forever etched in the minds of  boxing fans the world over.
